Champagne Punch

3 1/2 cup sugar
2 cup lemon juice
1 1/2 quart ice water
1 bottle Sauterne or Rhine wine
1 pineapple, cubed
1 quart cleaned strawberries
2 bottles champagne
Dissolve sugar in lemon juice in a large punch bowl. Add remaining ingredients. Add champagne when guests arrive.
